Alana Davis’ anticipated new album, Surrender Dorothy, is
her third recording since TIME magazine ranked her debut Elektra
release the #3 Album of the Year. Alana recently turned down several
offers from major labels, independent labels and major independent
distributors to instead launch her own company, Tigress Records.
With an overwhelming swell of grassroots support combined with
allies among some top brass in the music industry, she is poised
to release her first self produced album and strives to create
a new model for the music industry.
Surrender Dorothy came together with the help of world-class musicians:
guitarist Adam Rogers (Norah Jones), bassist Jack Daley (Joss
Stone, Lenny Kravitz) and drummer Nir Z (John Mayer). Ryan Freeland
(Aimee Mann, Christina Aguilera), one of the most in-demand engineers
today, lent assistance at his studio in Culver City, California.
The album features nine new songs written by Davis, along with
a cover of the Blue Oyster Cult classic, “Don’t Fear
The Reaper” and a Bob Marley cover of "Nice Time".
“Recording this record has been a tremendously rewarding
experience in my life – both challenging and liberating
at the same time. It was my first time producing entirely on my
own,” says Davis. “Isn’t that what it’s
really about? There was no one interfering with my creativity.
There's more than enough helpful feedback from supportive people
I make music with, my favorite musician friends suggesting a spice
I didn't have in my kitchen. But I got to throw the ingredients
I wanted into the pot – how refreshing!”
